The Nova Scotia Community Hospice Standards set the minimum expectations for the service delivery and operation of hospice settings. The standards focus on four fundamental areas: Clinical Care, Governance, Operations and Quality Assurance. All hospice settings must comply with relevant building codes, legislation and regulations that govern registered charities and care settings.

The Canadian Virtual Hospice provides support and personalized information about advanced illness, palliative care, loss and grief, to people living with illness, family members, people working in healthcare, educators, and researchers. The Canadian Virtual Hospice is a division of the International Centre for Dignity and Palliative Care Inc., a registered charity.

Like many conversations about care, ours started with a group of women around a kitchen table. Concerned about the wellbeing of caregivers, they wanted to find a way to better support each other through the many challenges of looking after someone in need. Now, more than twenty years later, that kitchen table conversation has evolved into a recognized, respected, and responsive organization supporting caregivers across Nova Scotia.

Palliative care helps address the needs of people with life-limiting conditions to improve their quality of life and that of their families. CIHI’s first report on palliative care was released in 2018. With this report, we look at what has changed in the last 5 years in the state of palliative care in Canada to understand what patients and caregivers are experiencing and what gaps in access still remain.

To support health care professionals in being able to provide a palliative care approach to patients and families, Pallium is collaborating with partners and subject matter experts from across Canada to create and compile palliative care resources.

Established in January 2021, the Canadian Palliative Care Nursing Association (CPCNA), represents nurses from across Canada who integrate or specialize in providing palliative care for people with serious illness and for their families.
