A clinical handbook of signs and symptoms in black and Brown skin. The aim of the project was to highlight a lack of diversity in medical literature and education. This booklet, created Malone Mukwende, founder of the non-profit organization Black & Brown skin.

In recent years, racism has been increasingly recognized as an important driver of inequitable health outcomes for racialized Canadians. Black Canadian communities and their allies have long advocated for increased recognition of the specific health and social impacts of Anti-Black racism in Canada. Anti-Black racism is a system of inequities in power, resources, and opportunities that discriminates against people of African decent. Discrimination against Black people is deeply entrenched and normalized in Canadian institutions, policies, and practices and is often invisible to those who do not feel its effects.

The Black Health Primer was created in response to gaps in education and training on Black health and anti-Black racism in medicine and public health. The courses are intended for students, faculty, educators and health-care practitioners alike and can be used for professional development at health-related institutions and organizations, the founders say.
