Library Glossary: Q-R

Recall – A request to return materials to the library before their due date.

Reference Desk – The desk where librarians and library technicians can assist you in navigating the library and its resources. Staff can assist you with conducting research.

Reference Collection – A selection of library materials such as encyclopedia’s, dictionaries, almanacs, directories, indexes, bibliographies, etc. Print reference materials are in library use only. Online reference materials are available through our databases.

Renewal – An extension of the loan period of library materials. Typically general loan library materials can be renewed three times (some exceptions do apply).

Reserve Items or Course Reserve Items – These items are placed in the library by an instructor for a particular course. These items are available to students for use for limited periods of time and are to be used as learning resources for a course. These materials are kept at the Circulation Desk and can be searched for by using the library catalogue.
