Library Glossary: K-L

Keyword(s) – Search terms that are chosen or selected by the searcher to describe a concept or topic. Keywords are used to locate items in the library catalogue or database. A keyword search will find all catalogue or database records which contain any occurrence of the keyword(s) that are entered, wherever they occur in an item record

Library of Congress (LOC) Classification – A library classification system developed by the Library of Congress in the United States. With this classification system items are organized/classified by subject. CBU, along with other academic libraries, uses this classification system to organize its library materials.

Limiters or Limits – Search options used restrict your results to only information resources meeting certain criteria (ex: publication date, author, resource type, etc.).
