Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) - Infection Control Guidelines

The Nova Scotia Communicable Disease Manual is a document containing guidelines and policies to assist public health practitioners in the management and control of communicable disease enabling consistency of public health practice across the province, while allowing for the flexibility that may be required within the district health authority. This manual is routinely reviewed and updated as new evidence presents.

The Chief Public Health Office provides direction and guidance on the management and control of communicable diseases in Prince Edward Island. The following policies and guidelines contain information for health care providers regarding the prevention, identification and management of communicable diseases pursuant to Prince Edward Island’s Public Health Act and Notifiable Diseases and Conditions and Communicable Diseases Regulations.

The Communicable Disease Control manual includes guidelines on recommended practices for the follow-up of selected communicable diseases, and is intended for use by public health professionals in Saskatchewan. The prevention, management and control of communicable diseases requires the active participation and cooperation of all health-care professionals and practitioners. While this manual is intended to act as a guide to the management and control of communicable diseases within the Province of Manitoba, professional judgment will still be required by those charged with providing health care services.

Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi. These diseases can spread from the environment or from one person to another resulting in illness in our communities. We provide public health workers with expertise, support and resources for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

IPAC Guidelines and standards

PIDAC-IPC is a multidisciplinary committee of health care professionals with expertise and experience in infection prevention and control. The committee advises PHO on the prevention and control of health care-associated infections, considering the entire health care system for the protection of clients/patients/residents and health care providers.
