Canadian Government Information: Royal Commissions

Royal Commissions and Commissions of Inquiry are established by the Governor in Council (Cabinet) to fully and impartially investigate issues of national importance. Royal Commissions tend to be broader in scope, with more cross-country hearings and publications, whereas Commissions of Inquiry tend to be narrower, with fewer publications and fewer hearings.
