Reading a Journal Article

Reading a scholarly article can be challenging for several reasons – not least of which is authors, experts in their fields of study, use professional language that can be overwhelming for undergraduates.

Selected Journal Titles

This list details some of the journals available to you through the CBU Library; it is not comprehensive.

Use SciFinder Scholar as your core index to periodical literature in Chemistry.

Fundamentals and Applications

The journal, Analytical Chemistry provides researchers with Reviews published annually in the mid-year issue - usually June 15th.

  • Even years = fundamental reviews
  • Odd years = application reviews

Ideally, you will use both to locate the best information regarding an analytical technique and a certain application.

Locate Review articles:

  • Load: Analytical Chemistry (see: Journal Titles List)
  • Click: Browse the Journals
  • Click: List of issues
  • Select: mid-June issue
  • Look for: link to Fundamental Reviews or Application Reviews

Annual Review

Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry

What is an Annual Review?

A review article is a gateway to essential primary research that critically examines and qualifies the wide array of primary research material published and available to the scientific community on a chosen topic.

Review articles survey primary research — including books, articles, and other sources — relevant to a particular area of inquiry or research to summarize and evaluate each important idea and finding. (Annual Reviews website)
